Greater than 160 animals on the Lawrence Humane Society discovered new houses Saturday after a nationwide initiative to “clear the shelters” with $0 adoption charges.
Clear the Shelter Day, which the Humane Society has taken half in for 9 consecutive years, resulted in 99 cats and 64 canines being adopted, in line with Elina Alterman, the humane society’s director of growth and communications.
The occasion carried over to Sunday with adoption charges at half value till 6 p.m. Full adoption charges are $150 for grownup canines, $300 for puppies, $60 for grownup cats and $125 for kittens.
Alterman instructed the Journal-World previous to the occasion that the target-goal was to put 175 canines and cats in new houses.
